This feature allows you to easily enter detailed names of stocks, commodities, custom indices, etc. or to make notes to yourself.
To access this feature, while in text mode, put the cursor over the target symbol and press the 9-key.
If the symbol is an option, DollarLink will just display its long name. Otherwise, DollarLink will search the dictionary file (called SYMBOLS.DCT ) for the symbol.
If the symbol is not in the dictionary, DollarLink will ask you if you want to add a description sentence to the dictionary. This is the way you would add entries to this dictionary. (We do not supply symbol dictionaries with our software; the user creates his own customized dictionary.)
If the symbol is in the dictionary, DollarLink will show its associated long name or whatever descriptive sentence you might have previously entered for this symbol. It will also ask you if you want to modify the descriptive sentence.
The file SYMBOLS.DCT is a straightforward ASCII file. It can be modified (or created) with a word processor or text editor if you are outside of DollarLink. The structure of each entry is simple: each line in the file consists of
symbol name; description sentence.
For example,
IBM; International Business Machines AAPL; Apple Computers (makers of Macintosh) SP U5; S&P 500 Sept'95 futures contract $$SP; Poor man's S&P: futures from $SPX and $PREM INTC; bought Intel on 7/31/95 for 65 per share
To activate this feature, start DollarLink with the additional DEADO word:
$ DEADO [enter]
Updates are yours for the asking, except for those customers who bought DollarLink but have not paid the annual support & updates fee. The updates always have the latest updated manual included as a file on disk; new printed manuals are available for $20 to cover production and shipping costs.
